RESEARCH TOPICS

The laboratory has several research groups, the largest of which is the Circuits and Systems Group (member of Infotech Oulu), which develops circuit topologies and functional units used mainly in telecommunications and electronic and optoelectronic measurement techniques. A second research area in this group is the development simulation and modelling techniques, implementing linearizing circuits, and developing switched-mode transmitters with inherently high efficiency. The primary implementations of this research are based on various ASIC (application specific integrated circuit) designs. Examples of circuits designed and realized in the laboratory with state-of-the-art performance comprise time-to-digital converters (TDCs).

The most important application fields for the research results include optoelectronic measuring systems, such as laser radars, and radio telecommunications, as well as signal processing in hearing aids and bio-signal measurement in extremely low-power, low-voltage environments. In all these fields, the results have been applied in industrial R&D projects and have led to commercial use.
